Job Description:    Data Mining Analyst - Job Summary The Data Mining Analyst will perform data analysis, utilize data mining techniques, design and produce statistical models to address a variety of business opportunities for Waste Management. The incumbent will develop algorithms and use advanced analytic tools (e.g., SAS Enterprise Miner) to develop and evaluate a broad spectrum of analytics for large data sets. The Data Mining Analyst will work with members of Waste Management's leadership team to identify and analyze business problems; as well as document, implement, and present the technical information to various internal customers. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential duties satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned. . Develop statistical models and methodologies to predict, quantify or forecast various operational and performance metrics. . Perform data analysis; develop algorithms and computational solutions as necessary to support the business units of Waste Management. . Provide expertise and support when implementing model results in Waste Management's ongoing business processes. . Ensures data quality and reliability and provide feedback to business process owners and to the IT department. . Identify new data sources that will maximize analytic capabilities for the various business units of Waste Management . Observe current Waste Management systems and processes, interacting with the appropriate personnel. Utilizing a variety of sources, collect and analyze information to support the modeling and analysis . Collaborate with Waste Management leadership to identify, define, and solve a variety of problems and support various corporate initiatives. . Prepare management reports defining the problem; documenting the analysis and recommending courses of action in order to determine the best outcomes. . Develop business methods and procedures, including accounting systems, file systems, office systems, logistics systems, and production schedules. Supervisory Responsibilities Minimal supervisory skills are required in this job. This may include occasional indirect supervision of full-time employees including management and individual contributor positions. Qualifications The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job. Education and Experience Required: Master's degree, or equivalent experience, in Economics, Operations Research, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science or similar area of study, and five or more years previous experience. Previous supervisory experience is desirable, but not required. Preferred: 5+ years demonstrated experience in applying several data mining methods, developing algorithms, statistical analysis, and developing predictive models. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Other Requirements None required. Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required . Strong problem solving and analysis skills: ability to identify root causes of problems, create effective practical solution approaches, implement solutions under the tactical demands of business operations. . Demonstrated experience working with complex, large-scale data sets in an advanced data mining analytic role. . Advanced practical knowledge and demonstrated experience of statistical models and methods. . Demonstrated knowledge of large relational databases, and SQL programming. . Demonstrated knowledge and working experience in SAS toolsets (SAS training preferred). . Programming experience, preferably in C or C# . Excellent communication capabilities: including written, interpersonal and presentation skills. . Committed and highly motivated team player. . Demonstrates a customer service mindset. . Provides demonstrated work and familiarity with data mining and visualization tools. . Experience with working as part of an integrated solutions development team to provide value to systems engineering and development for specific decision support application.
